Computer Literacy Training, English Fluency for Employment and Tagalog for Daily Life

The first batch of the Computer Literacy Training was held from September 27 to October 17, 2022. Twelve rightsholders participated in and completed the course, and they were awarded certificates of participation.

The English Fluency for Employment and Tagalog for Daily Life trainings were conducted from November 3 to 25 and November 28 to December 20, 2022, respectively.

In adherence to social distancing health protocols, the trainings were held in two sessions each day: one in the morning and one in the afternoon. Trainees were scheduled based on their availability and preferences.

Each language training session included 10 rightsholders. Catch-up tutorials were provided during lunch breaks, particularly for slower learners.

Overall, the rightsholders were pleased with the training, expressing enthusiasm and appreciation for the opportunities to enhance their computer literacy and language skills. They valued the training as it contributed to their community integration and improved their employment prospects.

She is one of those who gained confidence in speaking English and Tagalog. Her video is a testament to the impact of the project to the rightsholders.

The rightsholders had great interactions with each other and developed a strong sense of camaraderie. The African French speakers particularly enjoyed learning English, while many trainees found learning Filipino more challenging. The teachers simplified the language learning process and made it more enjoyable.

Three special features of the training were: (1) grouping learners according to their language proficiency levels; (2) an interactive job interview demonstration; and (3) a field trip to Manila Zoo, which provided an opportunity for the rightsholders to interact outside the classroom and practice speaking Tagalog with Filipinos.

The training was engaging and the rightsholders had a great time. The Tagalog language training concluded during the Christmas week, and the certificate awarding ceremony, which also served as a mini-Christmas party, was held on December 20.
