The Formal Launch of the PACCI Women’s Collective

  • JUNE 21, 2024

The formal launch of the PACCI Women’s Collective took place on June 21, 2024, at the PACCI Refugee Resource Center in Malate, Manila City, in line with the occasion of World/National Refugee Day 2024. The half-day event was attended by 15 women refugees and asylum seekers.

The program began with prayers led by two representatives: one from the Muslim faith and one from the Christian faith. Following this, everyone stood to honor the Philippine National Anthem. Ms. Josette Nimbona, PACCI Women’s Coordinator, delivered a warm welcome, followed by opening remarks from Ms. Liza Marie Acasio, PACCI Treasurer.

Ms. Ma. Theresa J. Limpin, CFSI Project Coordinator for Empowering Refugee Women and Youth (EWRY), facilitated the introduction of participants and outlined the objectives of the PACCI Women’s Collective. The participants were then divided into two groups for a workshop focused on the challenges and opportunities for women refugees in the Philippines.

The participants were then divided into two groups for a workshop focused on the challenges and opportunities for women refugees in the Philippines.

At the conclusion of the workshop, the participants reconvened to share their insights. A symbolic activity titled “My Personal Commitment to the Collective” was conducted, where each woman placed a symbolic item in her bag to represent her contribution. Some participants placed coins, expressing hopes that these would grow into significant funds for the Collective. One participant offered a special keychain, whispering good wishes for the group, while others wrote their wishes on pieces of paper and placed them inside a box. The group plans to revisit this “wish box” in the future to reflect on the Collective’s progress.

The program was formally closed with a speech of support and solidarity by Mr. Raffy El-Hawi, President of PACCI. In summary, while the project has made significant strides in assisting refugees and asylum seekers, further efforts are needed to enhance the participation and inclusion of women. The establishment of the PACCI Women’s Collective marks a significant step towards achieving this goal.

We anticipate a well-organized and sustainable environment were security, survival, and dignity are ensured for all. for all. We seek opportunities for employment not only as a means to survive but to empower women with the necessary skills and knowledge.

Our aim is to create a unified community grounded in love, care, and solidarity.

With an effective organizational structure and strong governance policies in place, women leaders will be well-versed and well-trained, working together to continually empower each other.

By fostering meaningful activities and securing financial support, we aspire to advance collectively, ensuring that every individual lives in dignity and remains empowered for the future.
