People of PACCI:
Ali’s Story
I became a student while seeking asylum in the Philippines and took up Dentistry. I learned about PACCI through word of mouth in the Arab community and decided to visit the resource center one day. I was looking for a community support group and was glad to have found one.
One of the main challenges for refugees in the Philippines is accessing services for refugees and asylum seekers, which is a common experience for rightsholders worldwide.
Eventually , when I submitted my resume, I was given the opportunity to become a service provider for my fellow refugees in the Philippines by becoming an English instructor, for which I received an honorarium.
Moreover, PACCI has taught me to become more sociable by meeting different refugees from various nationalities, colors, races, and religions. I have come to be at peace with people and understand them better. This is important to me because if I become a manager and work with diverse individuals, I will be better equipped to understand and prevent racism.
